Nailah Folami Imoja was adjudged the competition’s best writer at the 27th Frank Collymore Literary Endowment (FCLE) Awards. She was awarded the $10,000 prize.
The night’s other awardees, Gloria Eastmond and Andie Davis took second and third places respectively.
In the second year of the Spoken Word component of the competition, Akeem Chandler-Prescod again took the first prize with the duo Lucy Hammans & Cyndi Marshall taking second and Timon Howard Third.
Ramario Phillips received the John Wickham Prize as well as a developmental scholarship. Patrick Michael Foster also received a developmental scholarship.
The ceremony also featured excerpts from the winning entries and a feature address by Professor Jane Brice of the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus. Kellie Cadogan added her voice to the ceremony with a stirring musical performance.
The Frank Collymore Literary Endowment was started in 1988 to support and develop the literary arts in Barbados and is sponsored by the Central Bank of Barbados.
