Since its inception, the Central Bank of Barbados has accumulated an extensive and ever expanding collection of visual art, as a discrete part of Barbados’ National Collection. This wide selection of works, mostly from the Caribbean, spawns various mediums ranging from the 2 dimensional to the experiential. Several pieces were gifted by overseas partners, but the Central Bank also has an active acquisitions policy, at least through the Crop Over Exhibition, which it has hosted since 1993. Arranged in partnership with the Barbados National Cultural Foundation, the exhibition is an important aspect of the Central Bank’s community outreach and features a number of prestigious awards.
Many of the works in the collection are displayed throughout the Bank, the Frank Collymore Hall and the Governor’s residence. Though the majority of works, installed in non-public areas, have been catalogued and are now available online for viewing in our ‘gallery mode’. We invite you to visit our exclusive virtual gallery.
